Will It Ever End?
The Weather Channel is predicting 10-12 inches of new snow this weekend here at Whitetail Lodge. I've found my voice joining those people who have commented about this "winter that just won't end!" To add insult to injury, one person reminded me yesterday that it's just 72 days until summer! Groaning!
I think this malaise that many of us find ourselves in is a perfect reflection of how many people feel as they are grieving the loss of a child or other loved one. The grief journey can often feel like a never ending winter. The depression and fatigue and lack of interest in normal things can just seem to build and build until we wonder if we EVER see Spring?
But we know Spring is out there, don't we? The days are longer. The sun is warmer. It's just that the snow just seems to continue to fall, fall right on ME!
A writer in the Book of Psalms seems to capture this reality when he writes, "My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long? I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears." Psalm 6:3&6 NIV
Those words are like a winter that is never ending. But we know Spring is out there, don't we? It is! Just as winter must give way to spring and summer, so our winter of grieving gradually gives way to spring's promise of new life and renewed passions.
If your grief today seems like a never ending winter storm take hope. Spring will come, flowers will bloom, leaves will appear on the trees and the warmth of the sun will dry your tears and bring smiles once again. It's God's promise. God bless, we love you, Pat & Judy
